I was designated as an NLG in 2016 by the NCTL. I have worked in education administration since 1982 in both the voluntary and public sector, in London and East Anglia. I was a senior administrator in schools in Essex and clerk to governors. I have been a governor since 2008, became Chair in 2009 and started a Governance Consultancy in January 2014. I became an Associate Tutor for Essex Governor Services in 2015 and Governance Advisor to the Samuel Ward Academy Trust in September 2016. I have also worked for both Essex and Suffolk Local Authorities as an additional governor and a member of interim executive boards. I am a parent governor at my daughter’s secondary school and am a Director of the Vine Schools Trust, Diocesan of Chelmsford MAT. I also work for Suffolk Schools’ Choice as a Clerk.
I have experience of a variety of governing bodies from small, half-form entry primary schools to 1200+ pupil roll, secondary schools.
I have particular experience in the following areas:
Governance recruitment, induction and training.
Supporting individual governors; coaching/mentoring Chairs.
Supporting transition to becoming an academy/joining a MAT
Preparing for Ofsted
Effective use of the Pupil Premium grant, championing disadvantaged pupils.

‘The presentation of this course was lively and engaging, I would rate the presenter highly in relation to the courses I have attended’
‘As a new Governing Board of newly federated schools, it was an excellent evening. It raised plenty of questions for us to discuss, and, in so doing, helped the new board to gel. Mrs. Poynter was very good at keeping the discussions moving forward.’
‘Thank you for your constant help and support’
‘Many thanks for your help and advice this pm. It is good to know that there is someone coming at this from a Governor’s point of view.’
